Hi I was trying to align the weapons position in my character’s hand but aligning the right hand position does not automatically align the shooting position. All character’s animations are fine, it’s just the items positions that don’t seem to align perfectly. See attachments for reference

Thank you for your question. Is your character using the UE4 skeleton? Did you follow the tutorial on how to replace your character?

@farshad Hi there, yes I followed every step of the tutorial and every animation works great, the only issue is the alignment of the items. as shown in the picture even the flashlight is in perfect position. the only issue im having is with the gun (I haven't tried other weapons yet)

@onceadev9 If your character uses the standard UE4 skeleton, all weapons should be positioned correctly, as we’ve tested several UE4 models from Epic Marketplace and the weapons appear properly in hand. So it may be that your character has a little difference in the skeleton. However, any offset can be easily fixed. In Part 4 of the video tutorial here, I explain how to adjust and fix weapon offsets for the UE5 skeleton, but the same method works for the UE4 skeleton as well.

You can start watching from 5:15 and follow the steps to position the pistol precisely in the hand. If you still run into any issues for any reason, let us know and we’ll guide you further.

Edit: If your character uses the UE5 skeleton, please follow the video from the beginning.

Hi again. I tried again with both a UE4 and a UE5 skeleton and I have the same issue with both. My 3d models are made in Character Creator 5 which supports both types of UE skeletons. I tried to place my character on top of the framework’s mannequin so that they overlap and the differences are minimal, it’s just the size of the hands really. I tried to adjust the sockets manually and the pistol stays in hand nicely but then when I try to shoot it’s completely misaligned. I was wondering if you had ever encountered such issue and had some tips to share. I’ve been using Character Creator for a while and usually have no issues as it supports both skeletons, but this time I’m stranded.

thanks in advance

@onceadev9 I haven’t personally used Character Creator, since I’m not an artist and my experience is in programming. But it seems like you’re using an auto-rig system and rigged your character to match the UE4 skeleton. Usually, these auto-rig programs aren’t perfectly precise.

My suggestion would be to first try rigging your model manually and carefully in Blender or similar software according to the UE4 skeleton. If that’s not feasible, you can try using AccuRig and see how it performs with your model. If the rig is correct, you won’t need to adjust offsets in the framework at all, because proper UE4 skeletons are fully compatible.

I personally, for quick prototyping, Rig models in AccuRig to the UE4 skeleton, and the results usually turn out acceptable. Maybe you could try a test with this and see how it goes.
